Run-In Sheds
Alpacas are amazingly resilient animals. They require very little in
the way of shelter. I think I tend to meddle and fuss over details that
don't even bother them.
Because we decided not to use our existing barns as part of the fenced
pasture configuration, we had to provide other shelter. We liked the
three-sided run-in sheds that we'd seen on other farms and web sites.
We used 4"x4" treated posts for
supports, 2"x10" boards for the rafters, 2"x4" framing lumber with T111 siding,
and galvanized aluminum for the roofs.
The shelters are
snug, solid, and cozy enough for the alpacas in winter and shady, cool, and
protective for them in summer.
